How do I reset the automatic outline for subtotals
 

When I create subtotal levels, I do not automatically see outline or
grouping. What have I turned off?

How do I reset the automatic outline for subtotals
 

You're using data|subtotals to create them, right?\

Maybe ...

Tools|options|view tab|check outline symbols.

(I've never seen them not appear, hmmmm. Ok. I've always seen them appear.)
