Newbie Question Column Adding Please Help

I have a spreadsheet that has a column and the contents of the column is
either a "Y" or "N" I would like to know how to count (sum) the number of
"Y"'s and "N"s to give me the total number of "Y"s and the total number of
"N"'s

N
N

N

Total Y 4 Total N 5
