where is excel

Please place the question in the body even if you have to copy word for word.
Anyway your question needs a bit more information to describe your problem.

You probably won't find Excel on most new computer purchased for under $1500.
If you want Excel on y0ur new computer you should check first to see what that
computer comes with. If the sales material doesn't mention Excel, you will
have to buy it separately at a much higher price afterwards.

You can use the system search to search for excel.exe but from to me
it sounds like you've never seen Excel on your machine. it is unlikely that
an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) would provide Excel on your
machine without actually having installed it. (search for exel.exe)

If you were a fairly sophisticated user you probably would not have asked
the question, and you might be able to get along with the free open office
spreadsheet openoffice.org and you will have to download Java as well
from sun.com about 60MB all together.

Next time look carefully at what you purchase, there is a reason some
machines cost more.

If you are a student:
you may still get Excel and
not be much different that if you had purchased it with your machine.
But before you buy Excel make sure it is only Excel that you need. Most
people would also want MS Word so you might want to purchase
MS Office student edition rather than Excel student edition. The student
editions will require some kind of proof you are a student cost about 1/2
as much and are NOT eligible for upgrade packages. .
