Selection after enter
After entering data into the active cell, pressing the tab key moves the
selection to the right, but pressing the enter key does not move the selection at all. It stays at the cell where the data was just entered. Why? |
Selection after enter
The direction to move is probably not selected:
Excel 2003 & earlier: Tools -- Options -- [Edit] tab, Check the box next to "Move selection after Enter" and pick a direction (Down, Right, Left, Up -- your preference). 2007: Office Button -- [Excel Options] button --Advanced group and check "After pressing Enter, move selection" and choose the direction. 2010: File -- Options -- Advanced and check "After pressing Enter, move selection" and choose the direction. That was indeed the problem. Thanks so much for the help.

There is an option to tell Excel which way to go when the Enter key is
pressed. What version of Excel are you using? Access to Options changed when XL2007 was introduced. Also check that do not have Transitions set (this makes Excel behave like Louts123) - again this is is in the Options dialog. best wishes -- Bernard Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme "Jeanette Caldwell" <Jeanette wrote in message ... And yet another slight change in the way you get to Options in 2010, although
this time it's an improvement (when compared to 2007). I hadn't thought about the Transitions setting, so I got lucky because if the "Action after Enter..." hadn't done it, it would have become a stumper for me!
