Compile error in Excel 2002
I have Excel 2002 installed on a Windows 7 machine. While this version of
Excel was installed on Win XP, it worked fine. However, since I installed it on Win 7, every time I open or close an Excel file, I'm getting an MS Visual Basic compile error in hidden module. On opening a file, it is AutoExecNew module, on exit - DistMon. I followed advice in the MS KB Article ID: 307410 and removed both pdfmaker.dot and pdfmaker.xla. But it did not help. The error message pops up again... Is there any other solution to this problem? -- Ilya Zeldes Fort Myers, Florida |

Most likely you need to repair Office. You will find instructions at

Don,
thanks for your suggestion. I checked my add-ins. There is Analysis ToolPack, Analysis ToolPack-VBA, Conditional Sum Wizard, etc, but there is no xl... Ilya "Don Guillett" wrote in message ... Robert,
thanks for a link. I checked out this article. Although I did not mention it in my original post, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office XP Pro 2002 without any improvement. Nevertheless, I followed the recommendations for Excel 2002 users and installed SP 1, 2, and 3. No luck... I should add, that the error appears only if I start Excel from an .xls file. If I open Excel first and then open any .xls file from the File menu, this file opens without a glitch... Ilya "Robert Flanagan" wrote in message ... Most likely you need to repair Office. Ilya, try unchecking all the add-ins in Tools, Add-ins and see if that
solves. If it does, add back the ones you need one by one, testing in between adding. What you describe is an error in the installation of Office. The only cure may be to go to Excel 2003 (via ebay purchase) or 2007 if you need the add-in that is causing the error. Robert,
thanks for the suggestions. All the add-ins are unchecked. Apparently I have none. As of Excel 2007, this could be a culprit. You see, when I switched to Win 7, I installed MS Office Home and Student 2007. For a while, I used Excel and Word, but did not like it. So, I uninstalled MSOH&S 2007 and installed my old and trusted Office XP Pro 2002. Now everything works fine and the way I like it with this compile error exception... Do you think that uninstalled Office 2007 left some residue somewhere in the registry or elsewhere which causes this error? Ilya "Robert Flanagan" wrote in message ... May help...
Right-click a sheet tab and select "View Code". When the VB editor opens Tools References In the References dialogue box, uncheck any object that is marked "Missing". Thanks, George, tried this. There's no missing object... As a matter of
fact, the window in the right pane "Sheet 1 Code" is empty. Ilya "George Gee" wrote in message ... May help... Right-click a sheet tab and select "View Code".
