Slow Opening Shared Workbook

I have an Excel 2003 workbook that is shared. It's about 35 Meg in size. If
you open it in Excel 2003, it loads in about 15 seconds. I have one user that
is opening the file in Excel 2007 which takes about 45 minutes to open. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to how to speed it up? I've tried turning off
sharing with no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve,
This response isn't intended to be spiteful or hurtful, and hopefully
someone else will come along and offer something useful, but until then:

it may be a situation you have to live with barring:
retrofitting that system with Office 2003,
buying that user a faster system,
or POSSIBLY:
Get a (free) copy of Microsoft Virtual PC 2007:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Install that on the system and set up a Windows OS in it (not so free -
right now you need a licensed copy of the OS to install)
After getting the basic 'machine' set up, install a (licensed) copy of
Office 2003 on it and
Have your user work with the difficult file in the copy of Excel on the
virtual machine.

or, (said with small grin on face) switch everyone to Excel 2007, have them
all open the file at the same time of day, and while waiting for the loads to
complete, gather in the break room for coffee and cake.
