Simple Divison formula not providing answer.

I recently got Excel 2007 @ work. When I type =D12/2 in the cell I expect to
see the answer (whatever D12 is divided by 2). What I get is =D12/2. That
happens whether I type in the cell name or I click on the cell.
Is there a different way to type formulas in 2007 vs. 2003, or am I doing it
wrong, or what?

The cell was formatted as text before you entered the formula. Just
reformatting is not enough; Format as number AND re-enter the formula (F2,
ENTER)

There is no difference in formula entry. You have one of two possible
problems.

1) The cell is formatted as text and thus not recognizing the formula. Try
changing the format and see if thsi fixes the problem.

2) Your options are set to display formula in cell rather than the results.
If 1 did not fix the problem, this is the next msot likely cause.

To check the settings go to the Office button (top left), click the excel
options button on the bottom. Select Advanced on the left and scroll down to
the Display Options for this Worksheet section. If the "Show formulas in
cells instead of thier calculated results" box is checked, uncheck it and
then click OK.

If this helps, please remember to click yes.

Thank you! This correct answer gave me a couple of options, which I appreciate.
