unwanted cell formatting
 

every time I type a number containing a hyphen (03-8000) into a cell it is
automatically converted to date format even though the wporksheet is
formatted as general or number

unwanted cell formatting
 

Either pre-format the data input range as TEXT,
or precede your input with an apostrophe (')
