The lines are call borders and are part of cell formatting.

Format Cells... Border Outline OK

No worky. Excel 2007 - home tab - cells (insert, delete & format). Next,
format cells. Format window appears - clear? I make my selections in this
window - clear?
Style... and the lines do change. Diagonals... the lines appear. Outline...
should fill the cell with 4 lines to form a box. It should! Still 1 side is
open. I can fill the cell with a color. Still, 1 side is open. Cell curser -
let you know what cell is active has a dark line. 3 good lines of the curser
are a different color. I spent hours... to include formatting all kinds of
combinations. Still, 1 side is open... hmmm? Is the border line locked or
hidden?

I fixed the problem. My data occupied 2 cells, but appeared to be in one
cell, that is why I had a break between them. When I cleared the data the 4
sides were back.
Thank You Gary ( your information was clear).
