Extending Field Size in Pivot Tables

Hi -

I have been conducting interviews and some of the responses are long. I have
tried to put them in a pivot table but there seems to be a field size limit.
(By the Way, MS Access is not available). Is there a way I can either extend
the field size which would be my preference or can you suggest a different
way? Using the lookups as a formula are overwhelming the size of my file.

Thanks
Carrie

Extending Field Size in Pivot Tables

Hi,

A little more detail might help what is the structure of your pivot table,
what is the error message you are getting, what do you long fields contain
and how long are them? What version of Excel are you using.

And maybe, why do you want a monster text field in a pivot table?

Extending Field Size in Pivot Tables

Hi again,

I have tested 2003 and 2007. 2003 allows 254 characters in a field, 2007
allows 32,310.

So one solution would be to upgrade another would be to create a formula
outside the pivot table to retrieve the desired information into a regular
spreadsheet cell.
