Newbie Question
 

Hi-Have several columns across, one being a date column. I have a BOGO (buy
one get one free program). The date column is left blank until that item is
shipped and when it is shipped, I enter the date.
It is getting rather bulky and I would like to "hide" the dates that appear
there but want to check them upon occasion.
What is the best way for me to do this (keeping in mind I am a newbie) and
need instructions as well.

You could select the column then Right click and select Hide

Terri

Just to add to Arnie's suggestion, if you need to "unhide" them you will
select the columns on both sides of the hiden one (ones), right click and
select "unhide" from the drop down menu.

Can't do that because some I want hidden in that column and some I don't.
The ones with dates are to be hidden and the ones with blanks are not to be
hidden!

You cannot hide just some cells in a column or row.

You can hide entire columns or rows.

Maybe hide the rows where the dates appear?

That would hide the entire row, of course.

Hi Terri,

Maybe Conditional Formatting will do it for you.

Say your dates are in F2 down.
Highlight F2 to say F100 or however far down you need.
Go to FormatConditional Formatting.
Select 'Formula is' from the dropdown
Put this formula in the next box
=$F$1=1
Click on the Format button and set the font color to white.
OK out and OK again.

Now if you put a 1 in F1 all of your dates will be hidden
Delete the 1 to view them again.
If the dates are hidden and you put a new date in
it will hide as soon as you hit enter.

Ok - If I hide the row, is there any way to UNHIDE ALL or do I have to go to
each one separately and unhide them.

Do you want to hide the rows or just CF to make them look blank?

CF will not hide rows.

You need event code or a macro to hide rows automatically by value.

Alternatively you could use autofilter to hide non-blank rows.

There are several ways to do this but your original post said your sheet was
getting bulky and wanted the cells with dates hidden.

You can't hide just some cells in a row or column.

Entire rows and columns must be hidden.

If you do hide them, hit CTRL + a(twice in 2003) and FormatRowUnhide.

Maybe make a couple of custom views..........one with hidden rows and one with
unhidden rows.
