Where to start?

I have some basic knowledge of Excel but have never taken advantage of all
its operations. Since there are so many, where would anyone begin to learn
them all? This week I go to an Excel refresher course but boss has said
learning Excel tables and analysis tools will be critical over the next few
months to learn due to my job responsibility increases. Any suggestions on
where and what to get started on?

I'm kind of the opposite. I can't learn unless it's something I need or want
to learn... so I don't retain enough information from books. What works for
me is to be on a spreadsheet and ask myself what I want to do with this
spreadsheet, then step by step just go through it, whenever you have troubles
ask questions on this site or www.ozgrid.com.

Or search the thousands of examples on the internet, and do some playing
around yourself. The best knowledge comes from experience. For example I read
about the OFFSET function in a book but passed over it because I didn't
completely understand it. Once I broke it down piece by piece I finally
understood it and it has now become one of my most utilized analysis tool. So
if you have any other questions, let us know.

Hi Glenda

It is all a bit daunting isn't it? Microsoft offer free training courses
he http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...033.aspx?stt=1

Pivot tables are my favourite as they make you look really flash but are
easy to play with ;-)

I also find just reading entries on the discussion group a really great way
to increase my knowledge - people ask questions I had never even thought of
and sometimes the responses are so straightforward. Of course sometimes they
aren't...

The Insert-Function dialogue box can also be a good place to have a look
around.

Other than that play, play, play! Always on a copy of your spreadsheet and
not the original of course :-)

Good luck!
