time formula

i am a complete dunderhead with excel and need a fairly easy formula for work
out a formula for work.
i need to be able to input a start and finish time where 6 minutes = 1 unit
of time eg 2 units is 12 mins if i start a job at 12.00 pm and finish at
1230 pm how many units used needs to be displayed.
thanks in advance.

E.Q.,

I think that you mean 6 minutes not 5 minutes:

=(B2-B1)/Time(0,6,0)

I hope you are entering times properly, then this will be easy. (For
example,
entering "12:00" as opposed to "12 PM" or "Noon").
Say your first time is in cell b1 and your finish time is in cell b2. You
can find the number of units in cell b3 by =(B2-B1)/Time(0,5,0).
You'll want to make sure you have B3 formatted correctly. I think if you
enter times in b1 and b2 Excell will format B3 as a time, which won't work
(it will show the time of "0:00" for midnight on day 5). So make sure the
formula is formatted to display a number.
