In MS Office Suite of Applications...............yes.

For other applications you could do a search on the 'net for "macro recorder"
and get third-party utilities that will add macros to just about anything.

I still am not understanding your reply. Can you explain a little better?
These are the questions asked of me.
Think about the way you create a macro with the macro recorder. What are the
limitations of the process? Do you think you could create a recorded macro
for almost any application - why or why not?

What is to not understand?

You are posting in an Excel news group so first assumption is that
"apllications" refers to MS Office Applications.

I gave you an answer of "yes" to that.

As far as other non-office applications............do the search as suggested.

What are the limitations of this process?

Don't know where or how you are recording macros so cannot speak to that.

This sounds like homework.

I would suggest that you are expected to try the macro recorder in various
applications, and use your skills and knowledge to draw some conclusions.
Not ask someone else to do it for you.
