How to repeat same layout
 
I am making up new resident lists for our Security gates at a residential
community. Is it possible to save the layout width of the columns I want to
use, which is only columns A thru F. I will have approximately 40 different
street address lists when I am done. I have taken online tutorials and read
all the help I could figure out on this subject. In Microsoft Publisher,
number values are available at the top of the comumns which help in the
making of columns, but cant find that function on Excel. Any help would be

Select the column header of A and drag to the right or left.

You will see a Tooltip that gives points and pixels of that column width.

To set A:F columns the same, select all at once and drag.

You can also set widths by selecting a column and FormatComunWidth.

Type in a number.

When happy, save the workbook.

To have all NEW workbooks the same, you can create a Template.

Open a new workbook. Customize as you wish.

FileSave As Type: scroll down to Excel Template(*.XLT) and select. Name your
workbook "BOOK"(no quotes). Excel will add the .XLT to save as BOOK.XLT.

Store this workbook in the XLSTART folder usually located at........

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

This will be the default workbook for FileNew or the Toolbar button FileNew

WARNING................Do not use FileNew...Blank Workbook or you will get the
Excel default workbook.

NOTE: Existing workbooks are not affected by these settings.

You can also open a new workbook and delete all but one sheet. Customize as
you wish then save this as SHEET.XLT in XLSTART folder also. It now becomes
the default InsertSheet.

I want to congratulate you on doing research before you post. I make a point to do the same all the time.

I find that Excel Help can be disappointing and when it fails, I Google. I seem to have better luck with it.

I just keyed in "Excel column width" and Google returned many hits.

The following link discusses what Gord described about column width. Scroll down to column width: dragging. You will even see a snap shot of the worksheet.

Of course, not all web sites are reliable. But so far I haven't run into any problems.
