Folks, pls. help to find the reason of subject question. really i can't
understand where to dig.

why the size of xls file with empty worksheet could be 3MB?

Has it had data in the past? Excel has a real problem clearing it's used
range. If it used to have data it will think it still has unless you
explicitly delete the *entire* rows and columns that contained it and save
the file (Close an re-open XL in versions <2000)
