Excel 2003 - column widths
 

I just came from Excel 2000. My existing spreadsheet won't hold it's column
widths when I deselect the 'show formulas' option. Can you help me? I am
using XP.

Excel 2003 - column widths
 

When in formula view the columns go much wider to accomodate the formulas.

When that view is de-selected, columns go back to what they were set at
width-wise.

BTW.............CTRL + `(backquote above Tab key) will toggle the view formulas
on/off.

If I understand you correctly, even though the existing spreadsheet created
in Excel 2000 did not have 'show formulas' selected, when I open it in 2003,
it switches to 'show formulas', and when I put it back to the way in was in
2000 which was to show the results, it kills my column formatting. How
lovely.

If I change the Excel 2003 default to 'show results', will that keep this
from happeing to my other existing spreadsheets when I open them? If so,
where do I / how do I do that?

Excel 2003 - column widths
 

Excel should not be opening workbooks in View Formulas mode.

That is a Window Option found under ToolsOptionsViewFormulas.

Not a global Excel or workbook setting.

Only valid for the sheet which is in view, and only if the file is saved with
that setting.

All others should open with View Formulas de-selected.

Don't know why your existing sheets open in that mode.

Hopefully someone will chime in and help you out although I have not heard of
this happening without some code running but you wouldn't have code in every
workbook.

Any Add-ins installed and loaded that might be doing the deed?

Add ins none that I know of.

"Excel should not be opening workbooks in View Formulas mode." I
haven't had this experience (yet) with other spreadsheets created in older
versions of Excel. Perhaps I'll get lucky & this is the only one that will
do that. If I find it occuring again, I'll be back~
