I recommend using Google Groups to search the archives. Using OE is a great
way to access the groups but you'd have to leave all of them on your system
if you wanted an accurate search. There's no reason for that when you use
Google to store them for you.

(I use OE but delete old posts often. There's rarely ever a reason to keep a
thread on my system for more than a week. Since my hard drives (yes, plural)
aren't real big by today's standards, I prefer to keep unnecessary files off
my system)

You can use google (maybe a few hours behind) to search for stuff you've
posted (and find the replies, too)

You can try the Microsoft site itself but you won't like it.

I use this one:

http://groups.google.co.uk/advanced_...=group:*excel*

I'm not sure if it's still true, but the USA version (.com) displayed the
results differently than the UK version (.co.uk).

But that first link worked ok for me in MSIE.

JoAnn, thanks. Yes, that's what I'm currently doing. Agree the search
returns can be quite patchy. Also I believe the archives kept in MS's servers
don't stretch as far back as google's. Looks like I'll have to make do with
this avenue for the better part of the day (sigh ..). If you do happen by any
other alternative link, do drop a line here. Thanks.

Thanks, Dave. Afraid I'm blind to the above link as well (can't access).
Think any link pointing to google groups (country irrespective) is now
(uurggh) out of my reach for the better part of the day. If you know of links
to any equiv technical archives other than google groups (& MS's CDO --
JoAnn's response), drop me a line here. Thanks.

May I ask why Google isn't an option for part of the day but Microsoft's is?

Co. webfilter restrictions, JoAnn. Seems that google groups is deemed
generically as another "chat site", hence barred. Unfortunate, but that's
how things go.

There are all those other web based interfaces like excelforum.com. But if
you're using one of those, I would expect the MS version to be just as
irritating, er, good.

Thanks, Dave. Think I'd have to search MS as a first choice. The other sites
might come in handy if MS' search doesn't quite work out.

Ahh, perhaps, but probably only as a last resort. Even then there's no
assured success in requesting & getting it lifted, since it's a blanket sort
of thing which applies across the board. It's implicit that I've got to
exhaust the universe out there first <g.
