I have a spread sheet I want to move. but I don't know if there are
spreadsheets linking to it. Do you know how to find out?? I know about
edit/links/ source files, but I think actually what I am looking for is the
other side of that.

Clear as mud???

thanx

There's nothing built into excel that will help identify the other workbooks
that link to this one.

If you only were concerned with a few, you could open them and then check
(edit|links stuff).

If you were only concerned with a few folders, you could open each workbook in
those folders and then check.

But you may never be able to find all the linking workbooks--they could be on
protected servers that you can't even get to. They could be on thumbdrives that
you can't access. They can be anywhere.

When I had to do this kind of thing, I'd try to send out an email to all the
users (I knew about) and say "it's going off line and tell anyone you know who
uses this file and is not included in this message".

Then I'd rename the file and wait for the complaints to start coming in.

What Dave has said is correct.
However, if you want to check a particular drive for files that link to
your file I can send you a utility that will do it (slowly).

Just email me at Bill underscore Manville at compuserve dot com and ask
for a copy of LinkManager, reminding me of your particular requirement.
