question on links where info is added and cell location is wrong
Hi,
I have a question on excel links. Say a user has 2 workbooks, Workbook Red and Workbook Blue. In Workbook Red, a user has a 3 credits in cells B2, B3, and B4 that are added together and shown as a total in cell B5. The user creates a link from cell B5 in Workbook Red into cell A1 in Workbook Blue in order to grab the Total. Later the user finds out that every day he has to add another credit to Workbook Red. Therefore the Total will no longer be in cell B5 and the link will not grab the Total unless the user changes the link formula every day. Aside from putting the total on a row well down the page (thus leaving empty cells in that column above the total for adding new credits) is there any way for the link to allow for dynamic additions to a column (such as knowing it is tied to the cell just to the right of the cell labeled €śTotal€ť) without having to update the link location everyday since the total is bumped down one cell after every addition to the column? |

Why not name the cell containing the total (Insert Name Define)
And reference the name in the link formula = [Red.xls]!Total Bill Manville MVP - Microsoft Excel, Oxford, England No email replies please - respond to newsgroup |
