Trim function

On a column of imported text there are unwanted spaces to the left of the
text. I tried to get rid of them by inserting a column and writing a TRIM
function but the spaces remained - I've never seen that happen before. Does
anyone have an idea why that should happen? I'm tearing my hair out. Any
ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks.

They may not be spaces. Take a look at CLEAN in the XL
help guide and give it a try.

Try this

=TRIM(SUBSTITUTE(J2,CHAR(160),""))

I tried the CLEAN function and it hasn't removed the spaces either, so I
don't think they can be hidden special characters. If anyone knows of a
different way of getting rid of empty spaces I'd be really happy. Thanks for
your help.
