copying formulae
Recently when i try to copy a formulae from a cell and drag it into another cell it is only copying the value. The formulae drags the number from another worksheet. It has only recently started doing this, i have tried to fix it using various paste special options but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? -- ajs ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ajs's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=36046 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=558379 |

Are you ctrl-dragging a single cell to a worksheet in another workbook?
If yes, then make sure that both workbooks are open in the same instance of excel. Close one of the workbooks (and that instance of excel) and use File|open in the first instance and open your file there. Then try it out. ajs wrote: Recently when i try to copy a formulae from a cell and drag it into another cell it is only copying the value. The formulae drags the number from another worksheet. Il explain better. I have a table containing values in sheet 1. On sheet 2 i have a table reading the logs of the values from sheet 1. I have inserted new columns onto the table on sheet 2 and want to drag the Log formulae on to it. However, when i click and drag it reads the correct formulae in the formulae box above but it gives the value from the selected cell. Also, when i change a value in sheet 1, the corresponding cell on sheet 2 does not update with the new log value. I have someone typing the formulae into these blank cells by hand now. But this will become tedious if i have to do this every time. Ure ideas are much appreciated. -- ajs ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ajs's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=36046 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=558379 |

What was the formula in the original cell?
What is the formula in the pasted cell? Do you have calculation set to manual? Depending on what the formula was in sheet1, the pasted cell will refer to the cells in sheet2. Maybe you want to cut the cell and paste??? ajs wrote: Il explain better. I have a table containing values in sheet 1. On sheet 2 i have a table reading the logs of the values from sheet 1. I had a similar problem, what worked for me was instead of draging the formula or copying the cell I typed the formula into word and copied just the formula and then pasted it into the next cell. I not sure what the difference was but it worked. It was set on manual, i changed it to automatic. U were right. U are a genius, considering my dubious description of the problem.
