what function to be used

My queire is
There are many customers and each customer can purchase limited amount
of quantity in a year as per govt rules. these customers purchase
monthly or quarterly, etc., a particular quanity.

i want to calculate in such a way that
if i enter a customer name in one cell and the quantity purchase in
that particular month in another cell, the third should show the
balance amount of quantity that can be purchased by the particular
customer (balance quantity that is liable to be purchased).

please help me how to do the above,

Bob Phillips

what function to be used

You need to lookup up the allowable amount for the customer (see VLOOKUP),
and subtract the actual from that.
