Default Excel using dollars instead of sterling

Hi all

My currency icon in Excel is inserting a $ rather than £ - how can I change
it ?

pane Regional settings
change Currency symbol

Check the Regional; Settings in the control panel.

I spoke too soon. I've tried what you have suggested below and it still
displays dollars??? can you think of anything else??

so sorry.......
this problem was actually occurring on somebody else's pc and they said they
checked the regional settings and they were OK.
What they failed to tell me is that it was only happening on that one
workbook.........so I checked the number formatting on the book and it was
set to $!!!
That'll teach me to ask more questions about the problem in future!
