Help! Still looking for answer - editing unlocked cells on prtctd
I'm using Excel 2003, and I can't seem to edit the contents of an unlocked
cell when I protect the worksheet. Hitting F2 in these cells deletes the content of the cells. I am allowed to enter in new data, but I would prefer that F2 would work as it does with unprotected worksheets (i.e., and allow me to modify the cell's existing information). I've done a lot of testing on this, including on other machines, even other versions (2000 and 2002). Is this really an "undocumented feature" or am I losing my mind? |

First, I do not have your problem in my computer - XP + XL2003.
Second, if you can not use F2 to edit the cell's contents, try to use you mouse i) select the cell; ii) click the content which is shown in the formula bar; iii) modify the content in the formula bar. Hope this helps. -- Best regards, --- Yongjun CHEN ================================= XLDataSoft - Data Analysis Expert, Excel/VBA Specialist - - - - www.XLDataSoft.com - - - - Free Excel-Based Data Processing Tool is Available for Download Free Excel / VBA Training Materials is Available for Download ================================= "Phil-in-SF" wrote in message ... Thanks so much for your quick response. Unfortunately, the steps you outlined
do not work either. I am on a work-controlled machine (I have not tested it on my XP machine at home, but I certainly can...) that is running Windows 2000. Do you think it could be the combination of the two? Note that I tested it on a Windows 2000/Excel 2002 machine as well. If you open excel in safe mode:
Close excel windows start button|Run excel /safe File|open your workbook and test it out. Does it still have trouble? I'm guessing that you have a "helpful" macro that's taken over your F2 key. Hi Dave - Unfortunately, the test also did not work. Note that F2 does work
when the sheet is unprotected. "Dave Peterson" wrote: If you open excel in safe mode: Close excel windows start button|Run excel /safe File|open your workbook and test it out. I don't have another suggestion. I use xl2003 and can't reproduce what you've
described. Phil-in-SF wrote: Hi Dave - Unfortunately, the test also did not work. Note that F2 does work when the sheet is unprotected.
