Default Coverting text to numeric

In Excel 2000:
I have a column of numbers as formatted as text. How can I convert them to
numeric. Reformatting the cells as numeric and using F2 is not an option as
I have several thousand rows to convert in this column.

Hi, Steve

There are a few different approaches.
See if this works for you...

Select the column of "numbers".
If the number format is Text, change it to General or any other appropriate
format.

<Data<Text-to-columns
Select: Fixed Width
Click the [Finish] button

Does that help?

In any blank cell, enter the number 1. Copy this cell. Select all data you
want to convert, then "Paste Special". Select "Multiply" in the dialog box,
then click OK. You can then delete the 1 you entered orginally.

Thanks for the reply, Elkar. I went with Ron's earlier response.
