show the sum of an arbitary selection of cells

I want to select an arbitary number of cells on my worksheet then show the
sum of those cells in real time in another cell, say display result in F5
cell, then if I select another set of cells then F5 update with sum of the
newly selected cells.

show the sum of an arbitary selection of cells

Bob,

When you select more than one cell, the sum of the cells appears in the
status bar at the bottom of the window. It should appear in the largest of
the rectangles in the lower right-hand corner. If it does not, or if it is
showing a different function, right-click on the box and select Sum.

If you wanted such functionality on the sheet itself, you would need a
macro.
