Counting Values
 

Can anybody advise me on the formula for the following:

I am wanting to auto count values in a cell range e.g A1:A10

The data in these cells will only be a "X" OR "Y", i only want excel to
count the "Y" values & ignore the "X" values?
Any suggestions or solutions would be most appreciated.
