Default making gains or losses appear red or black in formula

i'm keeping track of my stock gains and losses...How can I make the formula
determine what color either will be????

Have you tried Number Formats?
<Format<Cells<Number tab

or Custom Number Formats? (check Excel help)

or Conditional Formatting?<Format<Conditional Formatting
