Default Subtotal function (again)

I figured out why my totals weren't coming up. The column that the numbers
are in are text. How can I convert a text column into a numeric one? I
tried hilighting the column and formatting the cells, but that didn't change
anything. I can tell because textual values automatically go to the left of
a cell and numeric values are to the right. Is there a formula I can add to
a new column to convert them?

Thanks again!
Kyli
