Unable to edit formula

I am working in Excel 2000, with a protected worksheet emailed to me from
another co-worker. After unprotecting the worksheet (and workbook), I am
still unable to revise a formula. When I make the revision and press enter
(or the green checkmark) the formula does not change, but instead appears in
the cell that the calculation formerly appeared in. How do I make the
revision to the formula?

Change cell format to general, it might be text, you might have to go into
editing mode first (first change format, then press F2 then enter)

Tried that yesterday, didn't do anything. Thanks for your help, though! Any
other ideas?

Hi Jennifer,
Did you receive the file as an .xls file or with a different extension.

Can you enter the formula in another column and have it work there
Check the format of the cell with the formula
select cell, format, cells, then is it General or at least something other than Text

Try each of the things already suggested again that you already tried, because I don't think they
will flag the file as needing to be saved.
Tools, Options, Calculation, automatic
Tools, options, View, uncheck Formulas (for viewing formulas)
select the column, Format, cells, General

Change the formula on the formula bar after hitting F2, make sure there
are no spaces to left or right of formula then hit Enter.
If that fixes it then you might fix entire columns using the TrimALL macro

Check the title bar for the word [shared] if you see that, then see
