Try this:

File|Properties|Summary tab
Hyperlink base: (fill in the appropriate base location)

For more information, search Excel Help for: hyperlink base address

Does that help?

I don't recall seeing a warning about hyperlinks. Links: yes, hyperlinks: no.
What message are you getting?

Alternatively, you might be able to use the HYPERLINK function. In that,
you explicitly enter the path. Check Excel Help for more information.

A Very simple fix for you would be aquire some webhosting for your pictures
something similar to a photobucket account. Use this for storing your non
secure pictures (not that I don't trust the file storage places but just to
be on the safe side). Then hyperlink to the web addy. Crude, yes, but it
works and is user friendly.
