extracting dd from dd/mm/yy

Hi,

How can I extract the day from the date, ie date is "31/12/04" - need
"31" returned in an adjacent cell.

I need to have "31" returned as a numeric tho rather than date format,
so formatting the cell with "31" as "dd" isn't my solution.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

Cheers, Kaye

Max
