I saved an important spread sheet and then made changes, I now have no data
displayed. Is there a way to go back to the older version of the saved

If you haven't made a backup, it is not possible.

The only way I've accomplished that trick is if I'm on a network and can
salvage files (or restoring from a backup). Talk to your IT people if, by
chance, you were on a network.
