data changes to date format

Hi all, sorry if i'm repeating something that has allready been covered
but I can't find it anywhere on the forums.

I've got a problem with excel automatically changing numbers that I cut
and paste from the web into date's

For example the the data in a cell may be "5/2" and I want it to remain
as this but excel thinks it's a date and changes it to "5-Feb" (Another
example would be "10/11" being changed to "10-Nov")

I can't change the format of the source data as this is cut and paste
directly from a web page, is there anything I can do to turn off this
auto format feature?

Thanks

Rob van Gelder

data changes to date format

Format the cells as Text

Paste Special as Text instead of the standard Paste.
