Some function problems

1) What function would i need to look down a list and bring back a name
that corresponds to the highest number next to it. E.g. finding the
highest attendance and bringing back the name next to it? I have done
a max function then done a vlookup connected to that but this has not
worked correctly.

2) I have a combo box displaying the names of products in a shop and a
scroll bar which displays numbers, both have been linked to cells and i
have done the appropriate vlookup to bring back the name of the stock in
the cell below. What I would like to do is run a macro that will add
the number of stock sold indicated by the scroll bar for the product
selected by the combo box to the "No. of Stock Needed" on another
sheet. How would I do this? (I know how to record macros etc. its just
the formula/functions/how to get the round the problem that I dont
know.

Please help as this is coursework in for Friday!

Thanks, Tim

Some function problems

A1:A10 has names; b1:B10 has numbers
=INDEX(A1:A10,MATCH(MAX(B1:B10),B1:B10,0))
find the name associated with the max number
Max finds value of maximum;
MATCH find what row that value is in;
INDEX looks up a specific entry in an given array
best wishes
