Default Trying to use IF but I don't get it

Hello, I am very new to Excel and have a problem I'm trying to solve. I
think I've figured out how to use the nested IF function for normal
problems but this one adds an extra twist that I can't figure out.

I'm trying to create a commission formula that is based on
percentages.

Example: a salesman will receive a 5% commission for selling 98% or
more of the asking price of a car.

If I have the asking price in D2 and the actual selling price in C2.
How do I reference them in my formula? I tried different methods but I
kept getting an error message.

Thanks, Brette

=IF(C2=0.98*D2,0.05*C2,\"SORRY, NO COMMISSION FOR YOU!\")

should be the formula that you need.

Regards.

Brette,

Try something like

=IF(C2/D2=0.98,C2*0.05,0)

Sounds like homework but here goes
=IF(C2=98%*D2,C2*5%,0)
or
=IF(C2=98%*D2,C2*5%,"No commission")

Syntax: IF( test, true_result, false_result)
test: what you what to test, Here we have sell_price is greater or equal to
98% of ask_price
true_result: what the cell will display if the Test is TRUE; here we compute
5% of sell_price
false_result: what the cell will display if Test is False; here either zero
or some text

best wishes
