Use displayed value, not stored value?
Hi,
I found the following in the Help file which I think explains a problem I am having, but can't find how to make the change it says to make in the last sentence. Where/how do I make it use the displayed value instead of the stored value? Thankyou, CD Change the precision of calculations: When a formula performs calculations, Excel usually uses the values stored in cells referenced by the formula. For example, if two cells each contain the value 10.005 and the cells are formatted to display values in currency format, the value $10.01 is displayed in each cell. If you add the two cells together, the result is $20.01 because Excel adds the stored values 10.005 and 10.005, not the displayed values. You can change the precision of calculations so that Excel uses the displayed value instead of the stored value when it recalculates formulas. |
Answer: Use displayed value, not stored value?
Hi CD,
I can definitely help you with that. When Excel performs calculations, it usually uses the values stored in cells referenced by the formula. However, you can change the precision of calculations so that Excel uses the displayed value instead of the stored value when it recalculates formulas. Here's how you can change the precision of calculations in Excel:
Now, when you perform calculations on the selected cells, Excel will use the displayed value instead of the stored value. This should solve the problem you were having. |
Where/how do I make it use
the displayed value instead of the stored value? Try: Tools Options Calculation tab Under "Workbook options", Check "Precision as displayed" Click OK But note that this change is permanent From Excel's Help ------------------------- Change the precision of calculations in a workbook Caution When you change the precision of the calculations in a workbook by using the displayed (formatted) values, Microsoft Excel permanently changes any constant values on the worksheets in the workbook. If you later choose to calculate with full precision, the original underlying values cannot be restored. -- Rgds Max xl 97 --- GMT+8, 1° 22' N 103° 45' E xdemechanik <atyahoo<dotcom ---- "CD" wrote in message ...
