Diff. in time

Trying to come up with a formula that will calculate the following.

column A has the following format mm/dd/yy hh:mm am

what i want to do is in column B is have an "if" statement that will
give a return based on certain time paramiters. If I break out column A
using column to text I can do it, I 'm wondering if there's a way to do
it without using that.

Dates are diff down the list

Thanks for all responses
