Default Filter Notepad file into Excel

I have a lot of data in this notepad file. It contains information I
need to create a database. I want to put it in a Excel worksheet b/f I
transfer it into Access. The notepad file contains various information
packed up together, but seperated by comma's. All the information is in the
same order on the notepad file (For ex. MLS #, Address, City, St., Zip Code,
etc...). I was wondering if Excel 2003 can search through the file, and
filter the different types of data I need from the ones I don't. Then insert
that data in a spreadsheet which will organize it according to its particular
category

Assuming each text line is for one Excel row, one way is to start with the
file in Notepad and use "Save As" giving a csv file name like
"temp.csv"
including the quotes.

Opening the csv file should get it into Excel.

Caution: if an address (for example) has a comma in it, Excel will split it
apart unless there are double-quotes around the field.

Not quite clear what you intend here, but once the file is in Excel,
various filtering and summarizing features are available. You might look
at:
Data Filter
Data Pivot table report
and use Excel's built-in Help for details.

(I have Excel 97.)
