What is the formula to reference a cell in a different worksheet?
Please help. I am trying to create a formula that uses a total from a
different worksheet in a specific cell that is not the same as the original worksheet that will contain the actual formula. |
Jenny If you want to have a formula read a cell or value from another spreadsheet, the simplest way of doing this is to have both spreadsheets open. As a simple example, select a cell in workbook A (this is where the result of the formula will end up). Put an equals sign in this cell and before hitting enter, place the cursor into the other workbook (B) and click on a cell that contains a number. This has now linked the two workbooks so that as the number in workbook B changes, the formula you have created in workbook A (which will be something like =+[workbookA.xls]sheet1!$a$1 ) will change too. Once you get this bit straight, you'll find linking workbooks isn't really any different than connecting sheets in the same workbook Good luck Jon -- Jon Quixley ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jon Quixley's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=25803 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=476132 |
Assume you have sheets called Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3, €¦
Say that the TOTAL you want is in Sheet3 in cell A30, and you want this to appear in cell A10 on Sheet1. In Sheet1, cell A10 press the equals sign (=), then with you mouse select Sheet3 and position your cursor in A30 and hit enter. Select Sheet1, in A10 you will find you have the value from Sheet3, A30. The formula should look like =Sheet3!A30 Hope this helps. Pank "Jenney Zellner" wrote: Please help.
