Any cell containing formula seen as data instead of formula

Sheets created on another PC work ok, but any sheet created by this PC has
this problem regardless of what pc then opens it. Formula watch and Trace
precedents reveal that a cell with a formula is not a formula at all but a
data value. But it looks like a valid formula, and when it was created by
typing in =, the usual help wizard appeared. But when completed, formulas
don't work. Looking at all properties, options, formatting between a working
sheet and one not working shows no differences. Nothing is hidden nor
protected. Any formula, no matter how simple, won't show results, unless the
spreadsheet was created on another PC. In that case, new formulas work ok as
well.

What happens if you press Ctrl-~ (the key just to the left of the number one
on the keyboard)

No difference in problem. Just changes the column widths a litte. On good
sheets this will toggle seeing the formula vs. the result, but not on these.
