this may be simple, sumif question

i have a column that gets 2 values in it either a number which could be 0,
or a blank.

i would like to sum another column if the first one is empty(blank).

column A column B
1.02 1 row1
2.22 1 2
0.00 1 3
1 4
4.44 1 5

so sumif(a1:a5,not empty,b1:b5) would equal 4 as column A row 4 is blank.

can this be expressed. i cant use 0 as 0 can be a valid answer.

thanks.

Your narrative seems a bit contradictory to me. If you want to count Column
B is Column A in not empty try:

=SUMIF(A3:A9,"<"&"",B3:B9)

If you want to count Column B when Column A IS empty try:

=SUMIF(A3:A9,"="&"",B3:B9)

CLR

Maybe.......

=SUMIF(A1:A5,"<"&"",B1:B5)
