Pivot style return

I think my issue is best displayed with an example:

Here's my rows of data:

Column A
Bob
Dave
Dave
Eric
Simon
Simon
Simon
Simon
Tom
etc....

Is there a formula that can return the following:
Bob
Dave
Eric
Simon
Tom
etc...

i.e. only the unique fields from the array?
Thanks
Matt

Cheers for that however it's not quite what I'm after. I can't use the
filter option as it will remove other rows that I require. I need a
formula/function that can achieve this. I know it's possible as I've
seen it done before but can't remember how!

if you select where the list is to go to, It does not remove any rows.
