Default Creating a New Sheet

I have Excel 2000 and everytime I add a sheet to an existing workbook the
sheet comes in with the fill as Black. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix
this?

More Information: The Workbook was originally created in Excel 4.0 from a
SQL Database. The file was then saved in Excel 2000. If you insert a new
sheet,it comes in Black and then if you try to format a cell it will not
allow you to. It will not allow you to modify the cells. It will allow you
to enter data, but it doesn't show because the lettering is in black also.
