Maybe:

Tools | Options | Calculation | select the Automatic Option.

Hi Norman,
I am working in a template spredsheet, I need to add various items and % and
$ amounts. When I add new cells, the template seems to not know they are
there.

Any ideas?

When you insert data, what does not happen that you expect to happen?
Please give a little detail.

I am starting with a template spreadsheet, cells are already filled in, such
as, reant, loans, gas, ins., I need to add new items to the list and to be
able to calulate theses new items. The Excel program is not picking up the
new information.

Without knowing anything of your template, it is difficult to help.

If you provide details of the template's name and provenance, then someone
with knowledge of the template may be able to come to your assistance.
