Default unrestricting drop down lists

I have created a drop down list to save from so much typing and I need to be
able to also add other comments to the cell after I have chosen my item from
the drop down list, but I get a popup saying typing additional data into the
cell is restricted. Basically, I can only insert drop down items into the
cell. How can I unrestrict it?

In the data validation dialog box, on the Error Alert tab, remove the
check mark from 'Show error alert after invalid data is entered'

Have you tried using the "Input Message" tab, where you can set a comment or
instructions for each individual cell in the validation?
