Could you use conditional formating instead? select Format, Conditional Formatting from menu then select "formula is" in box Type =a112 (assuming a1 is your cell with the number in) any cells formatted like this will change colour depending on the vaue in a1. you can copy the format to other cells and the reference moves as normal depending on whether you make it absolute or not ($$) Ruth -- Ruthki ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ruthki's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=24503 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=383551 |
You need conditional formatting.
Look up 'Highlight cells that meet specific conditions' in the Answer wizard in help -- HTH RP (remove nothere from the email address if mailing direct) "madhatter" wrote in message ... i want to change the color of a cell if another cell has a value of greater than 12. what is the input i use in the IF function to change the color of the cell? =IF(E312, ? , ? ) can someone help me. thanks -- madhatter ------------------------------------------------------------------------ madhatter's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=24790 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=383551 |
i did that, but i think that my cell i am getting my value from is causing it not to work. in the cell i am using as a reference for the greater than 12 is really this function =DATEDIF(B3,NOW(),"m"). how can i get it to take the value that is displayed and not the function? my overall goal is to have a cell change color if the date that is entered is older than a year. maybe you have a better way of getting this to happen. -- madhatter ------------------------------------------------------------------------ madhatter's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=24790 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=383551 |
