Match Columns

I've got two columns of about 1500 site IDs, one (Col A) with a corresponding state name (Col B), the other without (Col C). For the life of me I can't get Excel to match C to A and then put the state name in D. Thank so much!

Col A..................Col B......Col C
siteID..................ST......... SITE_ID
NCCA10-1001....... MA.........NCCA10-1412
NCCA10-1002....... NJ......... NCCA10-1413
NCCA10-1003....... VA......... NCCA10-1417
NCCA10-1004....... MA.........NCCA10-1419
NCCA10-1005....... NY......... NCCA10-1420

Solution Found:

=VLOOKUP(C2,$A:$B,2,FALSE) - that spits out the state in D, where the formula was pasted
