how do a create a lookup using first and last name
Hello,
I have two worksheets that I am trying to create a lookup for. They both have id #'s columns that should be the same so I tried to do a vlookup only to discover they are not the same. The only colomns on both sheets that are the same are first and last name. I need them both becasue some many people have the same last name but different first names and so forth. So what I am trying to do is take joe shmo in sheet 1 and return the data for joe shmo that resides in sheet 2. I cant for the life of me figure out how to do this. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks so much. Teri |

Try the below array formula...to return the entry in ColC for the
corresponding matching entry in ColA and ColB . Please note that this is an array formula. You create array formulas in the same way that you create other formulas, except you press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to enter the formula. If successful in 'Formula Bar' you can notice the curly braces at both ends like "{=<formula}" =INDEX(C1:C10,MATCH(1,(A1:A10="firstname")*(B1:B10 ="lastname"),0)) -- Jacob "Teric506" wrote: Hello, I have two worksheets that I am trying to create a lookup for. If the first and last names are in separate cells try something like this:
This data on Sheet2 A1:C4 Shmo...Bill...data Shme...Frank...data Shmuck...Ty...data Shmo...Joe...data Lookup Joe Shmo... A1 = Shmo B1 = Joe Array entered** : =INDEX(Sheet2!C1:C4,MATCH(1,(Sheet2!A1:A4=A1)*(She et2!B1:B4=B1),0)) ** array formulas need to be entered using the key combination of CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER). Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT key then hit ENTER. -- Biff Microsoft Excel MVP "Teric506" wrote in message ... Hello, I have two worksheets that I am trying to create a lookup for.
